OUR STORY
Remote – Luxury – SUP Adventure
SUP Surf Tours is a dedicated platform for stand-up paddle surf adventures, proudly part of Moon Group. With over a decade of delivering extraordinary travel experiences through Moon Tours, founder Trent Moon launched SUP Surf Tours to specialize in these unique adventures. The venture builds on a lifetime of preparation and a family legacy of exploration dating back to the 1830s.
Trent’s lineage is steeped in adventure. His great-great-great-grandfather joined Charles Sturt’s 1844 Australia expedition in search of an inland sea, while his great-great-grandfather played a key role in establishing the Darwin-to-Adelaide Overland Telegraph Line in the 1870s. The drive to explore even took his great-grandfather to Bolivia, where he lost his life in 1915 while defending his wolfram mine. Exploration and resilience are woven into the very fabric of this family legacy.
Adventure runs deep in the Moon family. Trent’s late grandfather explored the world in the 1920s, while his late uncle ventured into remote regions of Papua New Guinea and Africa alongside conservationist George Adamson. His parents, Ron and Viv Moon, are regarded as pioneers in Australian 4WD exploration, having spent nearly four decades charting guidebooks for the country’s most remote regions. Ron was also an avid diver and spear fisherman, competing at the highest level in the 1960s. He later became a dive instructor and served as a search and rescue dive leader during his 20-year tenure in the Australian Army.
For Trent, this passion was clear from a young age. By 10, he was confidently navigating desert tracks with his dad in the passenger seat and had seen more of Australia by then than most will see in a lifetime—and that was just the beginning. His childhood was filled with adventure, traveling across Australia, following his dad into the water chasing fish, snorkelling, and diving in remote and pristine locations. At age 12, he embarked on his first major dive trip to the Red Sea, an experience that solidified his love for the ocean. After leaving school at 16, he headed to Africa as an assistant safari guide—a role that only fueled his lifelong love of exploration further. By 18, he was recognized as Safari Club International’s, Australian Hunter of the Year, a testament to his deep understanding of wildlife and wilderness. However, these days Trent considers himself a conservationist at heart and prefers to shoot with a camera.
Trent’s connection to the ocean—specifically, surfing, diving, spearfishing, and cruising the blue—started from an equally young age. He began scuba diving at age 12 and trained to become a dive master in his late teens. Spending as much time in and on the ocean as he could, he began working on the water in 2010, crewing on superyachts before building a humble kite surfing school into a water-sports retail, wholesale, and travel business. SUP surfing became a major part of life, leading to what he does now—sharing the unmatched experience of SUP surfing with clients from around the world. He takes people off the beaten track to pristine locations, chasing the best SUP waves for his guests.
From Outback Australia to wildlife safaris in Africa, 4WD kite surfing expeditions in Mozambique, SUP surfing and kiting in Fiji, PNG, the Caribbean, and Mexico, to exotic Zanzibar—this journey ultimately led Trent to the Maldives in 2017. Now, nearly nine years later, with no signs of slowing down, the SUP surfing experience he has built in the Maldives is one for the must-do list.
